Poland plans to allow its military to shoot down Russian drones in the skies over Ukraine without approval from the European Union or NATO.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by Suspilne with reference to Gazeta Wyborcza.<\/span><\/p>\n

To do this, Poland will have to change its legislation, in particular, amend the law on the deployment of troops abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Polish Defense Ministry submitted a corresponding proposal in June and its consideration is expected to be expedited.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is noted that the law previously allowed the president to authorize the deployment of troops at the government’s request in the event of an armed conflict, the fight against terrorism, or evacuation. However, in February 2022, the government amended it to require the approval of NATO, the EU, and the foreign country where Polish troops will operate.<\/span><\/p>\n

The amendments were later criticized, emphasizing that they did not allow Poland to act independently against UAVs flying from the territory of Ukraine or Belarus.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is currently planned to repeal these changes, allowing the Polish military to act more flexibly in case of danger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called this the \u201cshoot first, ask questions later\u201d principle.<\/span><\/p>\n

As is known, on the night of September 9-10, Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukraine, during which some of the drones violated Polish airspace<\/a> . This forced Warsaw to raise its aviation and activate its air defense forces. In total, 19 drones crossed the Polish border, of which only four were shot down. Against the background of these events, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the launch of Operation Eastern Sentinel<\/a> , and the very next day Poland announced its own military operation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Poland and Ukraine have reached a new level of partnership in the military sphere<\/a> . Warsaw plans to sign an agreement with Kyiv on the development of unmanned technologies, using Ukraine’s unique experience in warfare.<\/p>\n

By the way, Polish President Karol Nawrocki has stated that he would like to deploy nuclear weapons on his country’s territory<\/a> . He stressed that Poland should participate in nuclear sharing and relies on France’s support in this matter.<\/p>\n
