A scandal erupted in Moldova on the eve of parliamentary elections due to a cyberattack on the Central Election Commission. Deputy Prime Minister Doina Nistor has already stated that Russia is involved in the incident, which is trying to destabilize the situation in the country. The cyberattack occurred a few days before the vote and, according to her, was part of a wider hybrid campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to a Moldovan official, during the attack, attackers seized Wi-Fi routers to overload the CEC servers as part of a DoS attack.<\/p>\n

“The vulnerability of the Central Election Commission’s systems has been identified and is now being eliminated,” Nistor said.<\/p>\n

She stressed that the cyberattack was planned in advance and is part of the “hybrid war” that the Kremlin is waging against Moldova.<\/p>\n

Nistor emphasized that, like Ukraine, her country has become “a laboratory for countering one of the most advanced hybrid threats of our time.”<\/p>\n

Parliamentary elections in Moldova will be held on September 28. On the eve of the vote, reports of new attempts at Russian interference regularly appear.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia has prepared a large-scale strategy to interfere in Moldova’s elections<\/a> in order to block its European integration course. The Kremlin is investing hundreds of millions of euros in disinformation campaigns, engaging the Moldovan diaspora, and organizing protests to undermine the positions of President Maia Sandu and her Action and Solidarity party.<\/p>\n
