Former MEP and former leader of Reform UK in Wales Nathan Hill has admitted in court that he received bribes from former Ukrainian MP from the banned OPZh party, Oleh Voloshyn. The British politician agreed to eight episodes of corruption related to lobbying pro-Russian interests in the European Parliament.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by The New York Times.<\/a><\/p>\n

A hearing was held at the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) in London, during which former Welsh MEP Nathan Hill pleaded guilty to bribery. According to the investigation, from December 2018 to July 2019, he received monetary rewards at least eight times from former Ukrainian MP Oleh Voloshyn, a member of the pro-Russian party OPZh.<\/p>\n

Gill gave paid speeches in the European Parliament in support of pro-Russian media outlets and politicians, organized events, and gave interviews to media outlets affiliated with the Kremlin. The case materials indicate that Voloshin coordinated the British MP’s activities via WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

Among other things, in March 2019, Gill was tasked with finding more politicians to appear on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, calling for support for negotiations between Viktor Medvedchuk and then-Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. He also organized a presentation of Medvedchuk’s “peace plan” for Donbass at the European Parliament.<\/p>\n

British journalists recall that Gill represented Wales in the European Parliament from 2014 to 2020. He was associated with Nigel Farage’s political projects – UKIP and the Brexit Party, later Reform UK.<\/p>\n

Judge Bobby Chima-Grubb said during the hearing that the politician faces “a significant prison term” because he admitted to receiving money for political speeches in support of pro-Russian parties at the height of Russia’s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Gill has now been released on bail pending sentencing, which is expected in November.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the investigation materials note that Voloshin, who is currently abroad and was accused of high treason in Ukraine in 2023, acted as a key intermediary in spreading Kremlin narratives in the West.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that local politician Nathan Hill will be tried in the UK for receiving bribes from a pro-Russian MP from the People’s Party of Ukraine Voloshyn<\/a> for spreading pro-Russian theses.<\/p>\n

Recall that on May 1, it was reported that former People’s Deputy of the banned OPZH Oleg Voloshyn will be tried in absentia for high treason<\/a> , he faces up to 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n

By the way, Oleg Voloshyn, a member of parliament from the banned Opposition Platform \u2013 For Life party, has written a statement on resigning from his mandate.<\/a> The document has already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, according to the materials of the Security Service of Ukraine , Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Voloshyn was suspected of treason<\/a> . According to the investigation materials, during 2020-2021, this parliamentarian assisted the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation in subversive activities against Ukraine.<\/p>\n
