The SBU’s counterintelligence service and the National Police, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, exposed a scheme to “legalize” Russian citizens in the EU.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The press center<\/a> of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this.<\/p>\n

According to investigators, in 2022, an adviser to one of the Foreign Ministry’s departments, who was then working as the second secretary for consular affairs at the Ukrainian embassy in a European country, sold Ukrainian passports to Russians.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The official accepted orders through a network of intermediaries in the EU. For money, he obtained Ukrainian citizenship for his “clients” and provided them with passports for unimpeded entry and travel within the European Union.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials are investigating the possible involvement of these “legalized” Russians in the activities of the Russian special services.<\/p>\n

During the search, a phone was found in the possession of the suspect. He was charged under Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code (illegal transportation of persons across the border using official position). The offender faces up to seven years in prison.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n

The SBU previously exposed a Russian agent among Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel<\/a> . A soldier from a strike drone company was transmitting information about Ukrainian forces’ operational plans to the FSB.<\/p>\n

The Security Service of Ukraine also exposed and detained a major instructor from one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air brigades<\/a> , who turned out to be a Russian intelligence agent. The suspect was planning strikes on Ukrainian airfields where F-16, Mirage 2000, and Su-24 aircraft are based.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the SBU detained two Russian informants<\/a> who leaked information about the SBU positions near Slavyansk to the occupiers and spied on Ukrainian Armed Forces echelons.<\/p>\n
