The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommended that its citizens refrain from traveling to Belarus. The reason was cases where Estonians were detained or interrogated by Belarusian security forces both at the border and inside the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> ERR, citing a statement by the department’s diplomat Angela Saar-Raaman.<\/p>\n

“There have been quite a few cases both at the border and inside Belarus when our citizens have been contacted, interrogated, or detained, just like citizens of other EU countries. While there, the situation can become extremely unpleasant for our citizens,” she noted.<\/p>\n

Saar-Raaman emphasized that in case of problems, getting help will not be easy.<\/p>\n

“Since May 20, 2024, there has been no diplomat in the Estonian diplomatic mission in Belarus, and there is no Belarusian diplomat in Estonia either. We also do not have a consul in Belarus. When traveling to Belarus, you should take into account that providing consular assistance may take much longer than usual, or may not be possible at all.”<\/p>\n

Despite this, the publication adds that humanitarian visas for Belarusians continue to be issued, and tickets for Tallinn-Minsk flights are still available for purchase.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Estonia is actively strengthening its eastern border with Russia<\/a> , building anti-tank ditches and planning to build bunkers. The opposition party Isamaa is even proposing to completely close the border due to the growing threats.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on September 19, three Russian MiG-31s violated Estonian airspace without permission<\/a> , staying there for 12 minutes. Tallinn considers the incident deliberate and has protested to Moscow.<\/p>\n
