Russia’s largest automaker AvtoVAZ switched its factories to a four-day work week starting September 29. The new schedule will be in effect for at least six months – until March 2026. The reason was a sharp drop in sales and problems in the car market.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to The Moscow Times, this was stated by the head of the company’s trade union, Sergey Zaitsev. According to him, the decision may be reviewed if the situation with car sales improves.<\/p>\n

Back in the summer, a management order appeared in the media, which specified the terms of the reduced schedule. The plant explains that this is an attempt to “preserve the team and avoid mass layoffs.”<\/p>\n

However, the market situation for the Lada brand looks critical. In the first eight months of 2025, sales fell by almost a quarter – to 211.3 thousand cars. In mid-September, the head of the concern Maxim Sokolov admitted that instead of the planned 500 thousand cars in 2025, AvtoVAZ will produce only about 300 thousand.<\/p>\n

The enterprise currently employs about 40,000 people, with another 15,000 working in related businesses related to the plant.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, the fuel crisis in Russia is gaining momentum<\/a> . Gasoline prices are rising in several regions at once, and some gas stations are still experiencing supply disruptions. Serious delivery problems are expected in the Kaliningrad region.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, new rules for trading diesel fuel came into effect in Russia<\/a> on September 23. The Kremlin tried to curb the rapid rise in prices by introducing additional restrictions for exchange participants and price controls. The fuel shortage arose due to systematic strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian oil refineries.<\/p>\n
