In the Polish city of Pruszkow, police detained Ukrainian Vladimir Z., whom Germany suspects of sabotaging the Nord Stream gas pipeline.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The man was wanted on a European Arrest Warrant issued by a German court. He was taken to the district prosecutor’s office in Warsaw, where extradition proceedings to Germany are scheduled to begin.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The detainee’s lawyer, Tymoteusz Paprocki, stated that the defense sees no grounds for extradition. He emphasized that the gas pipeline belongs to Russia’s Gazprom, which is financing the Russian war, making it “practically impossible” to bring charges of sabotage against a Russian facility.<\/p>\n

According to German investigators, Vladimir Z. worked as a diving instructor. In September 2022, he allegedly sailed from Rostock, Germany, to the Baltic Sea on a yacht, where he dived and planted explosives on a gas pipeline.<\/p>\n

On September 26, 2022, explosions occurred on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines connecting Russia and Germany under the Baltic Sea, resulting in massive gas leaks. The US, UK, and EU labeled the incident a deliberate act of sabotage.<\/p>\n

In early February 2024, Sweden closed its investigation due to lack of jurisdiction.<\/p>\n
