The situation arose due to damage to a 750-kilovolt line that runs near the Zaporizhzhia TPP and is currently located in temporarily occupied territory.

This was announced by the Chief State Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine, Oleg Korikov.

According to him, the plant is currently running only thanks to the operation of diesel generators, which provide cooling of nuclear fuel in six reactors. However, this situation cannot last long.

“We characterize this as an emergency situation that has not escalated into an accident, but may escalate if urgent response measures are not taken – in particular, urgently restoring external power supply,” Korikov emphasized.

He added that the Russian occupiers are deliberately preventing the restoration of energy supplies and ignoring basic nuclear safety rules.

Experts are sounding the alarm: if electricity is not restored, the temperature of the water in the reactors will start to rise and the fuel will overheat. This could lead to the release of radioactive products both inside and outside the reactor, creating a real threat of a large-scale disaster.

As is known, since September 23, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has experienced its tenth complete blackout since the start of the full-scale war. As reported by Energoatom, the last external power transmission line connecting the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to the Ukrainian power system failed.

Meanwhile, the Russian occupiers are obstructing the restoration of power, which creates a real threat of a nuclear accident – this danger has also been confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the station is currently running only on diesel generators, which are not designed for long-term use. It is known that one of them has already failed.

As a reminder, the Center of National Resistance previously warned that the fuel shortage in the temporarily occupied territories poses a danger to the operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

At the same time, Energoatom emphasized that the Russian invaders are deliberately not restoring the station’s connection to external networks . A prolonged blackout at the ZNPP carries serious risks not only for Ukraine, but also for all of Europe, because such actions by the invaders could end in a nuclear catastrophe.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has been without external power supply for nine days, which poses a direct threat to nuclear safety.
