At the same time, Washington does not rule out the possibility of providing Kyiv with other types of missiles with a long range.

This was told to Reuters by an American official on condition of anonymity.

A US representative and people familiar with the process of supplying and storing these cruise missiles have expressed doubts about the feasibility of transferring Tomahawks to Ukraine. As the official noted, there is no acute shortage of this class of strike weapons in the US forces, so the probability of transferring these particular munitions is low. Instead, alternative weapons with a shorter range are being considered.

According to him, the United States may also agree with European partners on the possibility of purchasing other long-range weapons and their subsequent deliveries to Ukraine, but direct export of Tomahawks is unlikely.

If Kyiv were to receive such missiles, it would significantly expand its capabilities for long-range strikes — against logistics hubs, airfields, command posts, and military bases on Russian territory, which currently remain beyond the reach of Ukrainian systems.

According to Pentagon budget documents, the main user of the Tomahawk is the US Navy: as of now, the fleet has purchased 8,959 missiles of this type, the average cost of one is about $1.3 million. Tomahawks have been produced since the mid-1980s – in recent years, production volumes have fluctuated between 55 and 90 missiles per year. The US budget for 2026 provides for the purchase of 57 missiles.

Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a closed conversation with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly , allegedly asked the US for long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles.

As reported, US Vice President J.D. Vance said that discussions are ongoing in Washington regarding the possible supply of Tomahawk precision cruise missiles to Ukraine , but the final decision on this issue depends on President Donald Trump.

Moscow later announced that it was analyzing reports of possible supplies of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.

By the way, Special Representative Keith Kellogg clarified that his words about the possibility of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine do not reflect Washington’s internal decisions . According to him, he only referred to public statements, and the final decision can only be made by US President Donald Trump.

It should be noted that Ukraine has repeatedly asked the US to transfer long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles, but the White House has not yet given its consent.

In addition, the Kremlin is trying to scare Washington away from transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine , presenting it as a “dangerous escalation” and trying to influence the West’s position.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is unlikely to approve the transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, as the existing stockpile is intended primarily for the US Navy and other domestic needs.
