Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said Ankara will not stop buying Russian oil and gas, despite demands from US President Donald Trump. He stressed that the government cannot leave citizens without fuel on the eve of winter and has no intention of dictating to private companies who to buy energy resources from.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the official, the government will not dictate to private companies where to buy oil or gas, as this is a matter of commercial decisions.<\/p>\n

“Until now, the private sector has made its own decisions on this issue. Because these are commercial decisions, decisions of private companies, distributors and oil refiners. They have chosen their suppliers and their activities based on their commercial considerations,” the minister noted.<\/p>\n

Bayraktar emphasized that Turkey will continue to purchase natural gas from Russia.<\/p>\n

“We cannot tell our citizens that there is no gas. We have agreements with Russia. Winter is coming,” he stressed. He added that Ankara also receives gas from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, in late September, US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House, called on Ankara to completely stop purchasing Russian energy resources. He insisted that supplies should not be resumed as long as Russian aggression against Ukraine continues.<\/p>\n

The American president also stated that if the requirements are met, Washington is ready to lift sanctions imposed on Turkey during his first presidency due to Ankara’s purchase of Russian S-400 systems. In addition, Trump expressed his willingness to consider the possibility of selling F-35 fighter jets to Turkey.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that the European Union is preparing for a complete embargo on Russian gas, which will come into effect at the end of 2027.<\/a> But already now, member states are looking for ways to close all possible loopholes through which energy from Russia can enter Europe.<\/p>\n

We should add that three European countries \u2014 France, Spain, and Belgium \u2014 spent more money on liquefied natural gas from Russia than on financial assistance to Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

The day before, during a speech at the UN General Assembly, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced the termination of contracts and the transit of Russian gas in 2026.<\/a><\/p>\n

By the way, Trump said that he is ready to impose “serious sanctions” against Russia<\/a> , but he will do so when NATO member countries refuse to buy Russian raw materials.<\/p>\n
