The G7+ Energy Coordination Group held an urgent meeting following Russia’s massive overnight attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. During the meeting, international partners assured Kyiv of continued support and agreed on additional steps to protect the energy system.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the Ministry of Energy.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by over 100 representatives of governments, international financial institutions and donor organizations, including the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the European Commission, UNDP, EIB, EBRD and other partners. The Ukrainian side provided detailed information on the consequences of the attack, which targeted oil and gas facilities and energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak emphasized that the night strikes were another attempt by Russia to leave Ukrainians without light and heat on the eve of winter.<\/p>\n

“This is an obvious attempt to deprive Ukrainians of light and warmth in the autumn-winter period. The Russians have not given up their intentions to plunge Ukraine into darkness on the eve of the new heating season,” Andarak said.<\/p>\n

The official also emphasized that, against the backdrop of intensifying Russian attacks, there is a growing need to mobilize international support and attract effective assistance tools that will allow for the rapid restoration of damaged facilities.<\/p>\n

The G7+ partners confirmed their readiness to provide Ukraine with additional assistance to strengthen the energy system and agreed to hold another meeting in the near future to agree on joint steps.<\/p>\n

As is known, the G7+ Energy Coordination Group was established in November 2022 to coordinate international support to Ukraine in the field of energy infrastructure restoration and protection.<\/p>\n

It includes Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, European Union, Energy Community, World Bank Group, EBRD and UNDP.<\/p>\n

By the way, on the night of October 4, Russian troops carried out a massive attack on Ukraine<\/a> , launching 109 Shahed, Gerber and other types of attack drones, as well as three Iskander-M\/KN-23 ballistic missiles.<\/p>\n

The day before, it became known that the enemy had struck the energy infrastructure of the Donetsk region<\/a> , as a result of which part of the region was left without electricity. The entire Druzhkivka, Kostyantynivka, and some areas of Kramatorsk were without electricity.<\/p>\n

According to the head of the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center, Colonel Ants Kiviselg, this winter Russia will likely intensify attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure<\/a> in order to inflict maximum damage on civilians.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that on September 30, the Russians struck a powerful blow to the Chernihiv region<\/a> , leaving more than 26,000 subscribers in Bobrovytsia and surrounding villages without electricity after a power facility was hit. The massive strikes also led to a power outage in Shostka and 38 nearby villages<\/a> , and in Kherson, the Korabel microdistrict was left without gas and electricity<\/a> .<\/p>\n
