Oleksandr Khilyk, a 44-year-old Kyiv businessman who beat up a cyclist over remarks about parking on a bike path, explained in court why he left the scene without rendering aid to the victim.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Khylyk, he left not because he wanted to avoid responsibility, but because his wife felt sick after the incident. The businessman claims that she was “nervous because of the conflict” and complained of stomach pain.<\/p>\n

“The woman who was nearby said: you take her away from here, go, you don’t need her here. She asked because she felt bad. People said they would call an ambulance, so I decided to go,” the suspect said.<\/p>\n

He also emphasized that he did not run away immediately, but stood in the car for some time, not knowing what to do.<\/p>\n

“Excuse me, my wife is sitting, she’s not feeling well, there’s another man lying there, but he’s fine. I thought about my wife’s safety,” Khilyk added.<\/p>\n

The businessman assured that he left the scene “very slowly” and did not feel any condemnation from eyewitnesses.<\/p>\n

“If the video cameras look further, people wave at me – not outright condemnation. Not a single person around this situation condemned me,” he said.<\/p>\n

The court is currently choosing a preventive measure for Khylyk.<\/p>\n

Recall that in the Podilskyi district of Kyiv, a Mercedes driver hit a cyclist several times because he was told to stop on a bike path. The 40-year-old Kyiv resident received serious injuries and is in hospital in serious condition.<\/a><\/p>\n
