Protesters carried national flags, US and EU symbols, posters with anti-government slogans, and photos of imprisoned opposition activists, politicians, and journalists, occasionally chanting \u201cRevolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"595\" data-end=\"901\">Special forces have been deployed in the parliament courtyard since dawn, and mobile communication difficulties have been reported in the government quarter. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that police forces have been mobilized across Tbilisi in connection with the opposition rally.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"903\" data-end=\"1075\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">As I noted in October 2024, during the parliamentary elections, if Georgians do not stop this themselves \u2014 as decisively as Ukrainians did \u2014 the situation will only worsen.<\/p>\n\t\t<aside class=\"shortcode-also\" data-title=\"Read also\" >\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/babis-party-wins-czech-parliamentary-elections-anti-ukrainian-politician-receives-majority-of-votes\/\">Babis&#8217; party wins Czech parliamentary elections: anti-Ukrainian politician receives majority of votes<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\n<p data-start=\"82\" data-end=\"311\">We are already seeing all the signs of regression: parties are being banned, engagement with civil society is rapidly sliding into harsh authoritarianism, activists are being jailed, and the risk of lethal repression is growing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"313\" data-end=\"565\">Judging by the government\u2019s reaction to the protests, the pro\u2011Kremlin ruling team understands that it will not be allowed to relinquish power peacefully. As a result, Ivanishvili\u2019s group is likely to fight to retain control \u2014 and Russia will back them.<\/p>\n<p><em>Recall that on October 4, local elections were held in Georgia. Eight opposition parties in Georgia announced in July that they would not participate in the municipal elections in October. <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/u-tbilisi-spalakhnuly-masovi-protesty-uchasnyky-oholosyly-uriad-nelehitymnym-ta-pochaly-shturm-prezydentskoho-palatsu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Protests were held in Georgia due to the disputed results of the municipal elections<\/a>. They soon escalated into clashes with the police, after which people were dispersed with water cannons. Participants in anti-government demonstrations also began an assault on the presidential palace. Some managed to break into the courtyard. There are detainees. Security forces used pepper spray.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Later, the Central Election Commission of Georgia announced <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/vybory-v-hruzii-tsvk-zaiavyla-pro-peremohu-prorosiyskoi-partii\/\">the victory of the leading pro-Russian party \u201cGeorgian Dream\u201d<\/a> in the local elections, amid protests. According to the CEC, candidates from this political force won in all cities and municipalities, including Tbilisi. In 26 municipalities, the candidates of the leading party had no rivals.
