French Prime Minister S\u00e9bastien Le Corneille has resigned just 27 days after being appointed. President Emmanuel Macron accepted his resignation, making Le Corneille’s tenure in office the shortest in modern French history.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A government crisis erupted in France as Prime Minister Sebastien Le Corneille unexpectedly resigned less than a month after being appointed. Macron accepted his resignation on Monday, October 6, hours before the new government’s first meeting.<\/p>\n

Le Corneille’s tenure in office was just 27 days, the shortest of any prime minister in modern French history. The day before, he presented the composition of his new cabinet, which included mostly Macron’s associates and members of the previous government.<\/p>\n

French media outlets note that Lecornu’s decision was preceded by political disagreements and threats of a vote of no confidence from several opposition forces. Some parties openly declared their intention to seek a change of government as soon as it was formed.<\/p>\n

It is worth adding that 47-year-old Sebastien Lecornu was appointed Prime Minister on September 9, 2025. Prior to that, he served as France’s Minister of Defense, actively supporting the strengthening of the country’s defense capabilities against the backdrop of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.<\/p>\n
