In the United States, the Senate on October 6 failed to pass either of two resolutions that would have stopped the federal government shutdown.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As noted, both proposals – from Democrats and Republicans – did not gain sufficient support. The dispute between the parties intensified over the provision on tax breaks for health insurance for vulnerable categories of the population.<\/p>\n

Democrats are pushing for a permanent extension of the expanded tax credit on insurance premiums to help Americans buy private health insurance under Obamacare, while Republicans are strongly opposed, arguing that such an initiative would put an excessive strain on the budget.<\/p>\n

According to CNN, the situation could lead to mass layoffs of federal employees if US President Donald Trump declares the negotiations inconclusive. In this case, the White House may begin to reduce staff to minimize expenses in the absence of approved funding.<\/p>\n

A shutdown in the United States is a temporary suspension of the federal government due to a lack of funds. If Congress fails to pass a budget or temporary funding, government agencies lose the right to spend money.<\/p>\n

In this case, some civil servants are forced to take unpaid leave, while those whose functions are recognized as critically important – in particular, military, law enforcement, and aviation security workers – continue to work, but will receive their salaries only after funding is restored.<\/p>\n

As is known, the administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing to publish a list of government agencies that will see massive staff cuts<\/a> after the government shutdown on October 1.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the US federal government officially shut down at midnight on October 1 due to the failure of attempts to pass temporary funding for the new budget year<\/a> . The reason was the conflict between Democrats and Republicans in Congress.<\/p>\n

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the US shutdown did not affect the supply of weapons to Ukraine<\/a> and military support continues in the planned volumes.<\/p>\n
