Gold hit a new all-time high on Tuesday, October 7, nearing $4,000 an ounce. The precious metal’s rise is fueled by uncertainty in global markets, a prolonged shutdown in the US, and political instability in France.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Investing<\/a> , as of 9:31 a.m., the price of gold reached $3,985.37 per ounce. That’s about $128.56 per gram.<\/p>\n

Analysts note that the US government shutdown, which has been going on for the second week, has left investors without key economic data necessary to assess the current state of the economy. In these conditions, the Federal Reserve is forced to make decisions on monetary policy in the face of a lack of information. Investors, despite everything, continue to expect a reduction in the base rate by 0.25%, which traditionally has a positive effect on the price of gold.<\/p>\n

The situation in Europe is also adding to the jitters: in France, Prime Minister Sebastien Le Corneille resigned after budget talks collapsed. The political crisis is complicating efforts to contain a record budget deficit, putting additional pressure on the eurozone.<\/p>\n

The Asian region was not left out: the expectation of Sanae Takaichi’s appointment as Prime Minister of Japan caused fluctuations in financial markets.<\/p>\n

As Niki Shiels, head of research at MKS PAMP SA, explains, political risks in France and Japan are deepening concerns about global fiscal stability, which is driving demand for gold as a safe-haven asset.<\/p>\n

Despite a slight decrease in the spot price to $3,963.95 per ounce, prices continue to move towards the strongest annual increase since 1979.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the price of the precious metal exceeded $3,860 per ounce in late September, setting a new record.<\/a> The reason for this jump was investor concerns about a possible US government shutdown, which creates additional uncertainty in financial markets.<\/p>\n
