The Russian Federation is actively recruiting foreign mercenaries to participate in the war against Ukraine. According to Ukrainian intelligence, up to 25,000 Cuban citizens may be fighting on the side of the Russian Federation. This makes the Cuban contingent the largest among foreigners in the ranks of the Russian troops.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine notes that the Kremlin is deliberately relying on foreigners, since losses among mercenaries do not cause significant public resonance in Russia itself and do not require social compensation.<\/p>\n

The main reason for Cubans to participate in hostilities is financial reward – the contract offers about $2,000 per month, which is many times higher than the average income in Cuba. Some mercenaries sign contracts voluntarily, but there are reports of cases of fraud: some citizens were allegedly invited to work in the construction sector, but were later sent to the front.<\/p>\n

Despite official denials from Havana, experts believe that without some consent from the Cuban authorities, a large-scale recruitment campaign would be impossible.<\/p>\n

The participation of foreigners allows Russia to reduce the number of its own population mobilized, which helps avoid increasing social tensions. At the same time, foreign military personnel, in particular from Cuba, receive practical skills in conducting modern warfare, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicles.<\/p>\n

According to analysts, the growing role of foreign fighters in the conflict may have long-term consequences, including contributing to the spread of combat experience beyond Ukraine.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the administration of US President Donald Trump has launched a diplomatic campaign at the UN calling on allies to isolate Cuba due to its participation in the war against Ukraine<\/a> . Washington is calling for the annual resolution to lift the embargo on Cuba not to be supported, accusing Havana of sending its citizens to fight on the side of Russia.<\/p>\n

As reported, the Kremlin is actively recruiting residents of the Middle East to participate in the war against Ukraine, in particular, the Russian Federation is conducting large-scale campaigns together with Iran.<\/a><\/p>\n
