Before the start of the heating season, Russia destroyed 60% of Ukrainian gas production thanks to large-scale attacks on facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The publication’s interlocutors said that after the strikes, Ukraine urgently appealed to international partners and, at a closed meeting, asked for equipment to repair the power system and more air defense weapons to protect the infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bloomberg suggests that Russia stepped up its attacks earlier this year after Ukraine halted Russian gas transit through its territory. If<\/span> the attacks continue, Ukraine will be forced to purchase about 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of March, equivalent to 20% of the country\u2019s annual consumption. This will cost almost 2 billion euros.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, there is a risk that the Russians will intensify their strikes, resulting in even greater damage to domestic production.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to informed people, the repair of the power system is currently estimated at 758 million euros.<\/span><\/p>\n

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, and the European Commission are considering additional funding. Naftogaz has already received two loans \u2014 \u20ac500 million from the EBRD and \u20ac300 million from the EIB.<\/span><\/p>\n

Previously, before the full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s gas infrastructure was able to cover domestic demand with its own resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, intensive Russian attacks have forced it to rely on foreign suppliers. In particular, since the beginning of 2025, Ukraine has already purchased 4.58 billion cubic meters of gas. At the same time, Kyiv is warning allies that Ukrainian needs may increase due to the strikes.<\/span><\/p>\n

As is known, Russia has recently intensified attacks on the Ukrainian energy grid, in particular on gas installations<\/a> , which are key components of the country’s heating system.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, amid increasing Russian attacks on the energy system , Ukraine plans to increase gas imports by a third<\/a> and has already begun negotiations with international partners.<\/p>\n
