Analysts estimate that up to 15% of carriers could leave the market by the end of 2025.

This is reported by The Moscow Times, citing data from the Russian publication Vedomosti.

Approximately one in five logistics companies ceased operations in the first quarter of this year. The main reasons include falling transportation rates, rising fleet maintenance costs, and economic stagnation in key sectors.

According to a study by MAResearch and logistics company PEK, the industry’s revenue fell by 5% in the first half of the year, despite a 3.5% increase in physical transportation volume. By the end of the year, analysts expect only a slight increase in revenue – about 1% compared to 2024 (to 2.63 trillion rubles).

The decline in freight rates has been observed since last year. By the beginning of 2025, they had fallen by an average of 8% on the 100 most popular routes. This is due not only to the macroeconomic situation, but also to the decline in consumer demand, the crisis in the construction sector and the growth of the so-called captive segment – when companies independently transport their own cargo. Currently, such transportation covers up to a third of the volumes in the general cargo category.

According to media reports, the market is being left mainly by small companies that cannot withstand competition and compensate for the constant increase in costs.

As a reminder, Russia’s largest automaker AvtoVAZ switched its factories to a four-day work week on September 29. The new schedule will be in effect for at least six months, until March 2026. The reason was a sharp drop in sales and problems in the car market.

As reported, one of the key players in the Russian agricultural industry, Rostsilmash, has reduced production capacity and introduced a three-day work week starting in August. The reason is a sharp drop in sales and financial instability.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

The crisis in the Russian freight transport industry is deepening, with companies facing rising costs, falling demand, and leasing problems.
