The European Union has announced the launch of three initiatives worth a total of \u20ac6.6 million aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s independent media sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated<\/a> in a press release from the EU Delegation to Ukraine.<\/p>\n

These projects aim to provide journalists with the tools and resources to continue their work \u2014 informing citizens, investigating, covering war events and exposing corruption. As EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova noted, the EU \u201cstands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine\u2019s independent media\u201d, with the task of strengthening the state\u2019s capacity to provide reliable information, hold the authorities accountable and document the aggressor\u2019s crimes.<\/p>\n

Within the scope of the ad:<\/p>\n

\u20ac3 million will be channeled to frontline and investigative media. The project is being implemented through Internews International and the Media Development Fund. It includes grants for 40 media outlets, mentoring, training and institutional support for investigators.<\/p>\n

\u20ac2 million is earmarked for the initiative \u201cStrengthening the Resilience of an Independent, Free and Pluralistic Media Ecosystem in Ukraine\u201d, which will be implemented by Reporters Without Borders. The program will include emergency assistance to journalists, the provision of protective equipment, support for the media through the Journalism Trust Initiative and IFRUM, and advocacy for media rights in recovery programs.<\/p>\n

The project \u201cEmpowering Ukrainian Media for a Sustainable Future,\u201d coordinated by the Institute of Mass Information and Detector Media, will receive EUR 1.6 million. The program will support regional media, counter disinformation, and provide legal, security, and professional assistance to over 500 journalists through the creation of 15 regional media hubs.<\/p>\n

The official announcement took place as part of the Donbas Media Forum, which runs from October 9 to 11.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Council of Europe Development Bank transferred another 170 million euros to Ukraine, which will be used for housing programs.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, on October 8, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated an additional UAH 36.6 billion for the needs of the Ministry of Defense.<\/a><\/p>\n
