The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced Ukrainian prisoner of war, a fighter of the Azov brigade, Vitaliy Kostyuchenko.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by Russian media.<\/p>\n

It is noted that 32-year-old Kostyuchenko was sentenced to 18 years in a maximum-security colony<\/strong> on charges of participation in a “terrorist organization” and “training for terrorist activities.”<\/p>\n

The case of the Ukrainian defender has been under consideration since June 2025. According to the court, he was charged under articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation relating to participation in a terrorist group. The Russian authorities, as before, consider the Ukrainian Azov Regiment a “terrorist organization”, which contradicts international law.<\/p>\n

Vitaliy Kostyuchenko was born on September 11, 1993. In the database of missing persons of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, he is listed<\/a> as missing since September 1, 2022 in the Donetsk region. The wanted list indicates that the man had dark short hair, an oval face and a prominent chin. After his capture, his fate remained unknown for a long time.<\/p>\n

The Russian court found Kostyuchenko guilty of “teaching terrorist activities” without specific evidence, which once again confirms the political nature of such sentences. The Ukrainian side has repeatedly emphasized that such trials violate the norms of the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee the protection of prisoners of war and prohibit them from being tried for participation in hostilities.<\/p>\n

Recall that on October 1, 2025, the same court in Rostov-on-Don handed down an identical sentence to another captured “Azov”<\/a> – 33-year-old Dmytro Remez from Zaporizhzhia, sentencing him to 18 years in a maximum-security colony on similar charges.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on June 14, a trial of 22 Ukrainian servicemen belonging to \u201cAzov\u201d took place<\/a> in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. Of the 24 fighters who were charged with the so-called \u201ccharges,\u201d two were exchanged for Russian prisoners of war, and eight more were women who worked as cooks in the \u201cAzov\u201d regiment.<\/p>\n
