Washington has reacted to the Nobel Committee’s decision to award the 2025 Peace Prize to the leader of the democratic movement in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado. The administration of US President Donald Trump believes that the committee has put “politics above peace.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by<\/a> White House Communications Director Stephen Chung on the social network X.<\/p>\n

“President Trump will continue to make peace deals, end wars, and save lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the force of his will. The Nobel Committee has proven that for him politics is above peace,” Chung wrote.<\/p>\n

Recall that Maria Corina Machado was recognized for her long-standing struggle for democracy in Venezuela<\/a> . The committee described her as one of the most prominent figures of civic courage in Latin America. She founded an organization that promotes democratic development, advocated for the independence of the judiciary, human rights, and genuine popular representation.<\/p>\n

Machado attempted to run for president in 2024, but the current regime blocked her candidacy. She then supported another opposition candidate, Edmundo Gonz\u00e1lez Urrutia.<\/p>\n

The Nobel Committee emphasized that in conditions of authoritarianism, it is especially important to support those who have the courage to resist and defend freedom, because “democracy rests on people who refuse to remain silent.”<\/p>\n

Separately, we would like to note that this week the winners of awards from other industries have already been announced:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chemistry<\/strong> – Susumu Kitagawa (Japan), Richard Robson (Great Britain), Omar M. Yagi (USA) – for the creation of molecular structures with large cavities.<\/p>\n

Physics<\/strong> – Michel E. Devore (France), John M. Martinis (USA), John Clarke (Great Britain) – for achievements in quantum mechanics<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Medicine<\/strong> – Mary E. Brancow, Fred Ramsdell (USA), Shimon Sakaguchi (Japan) – for discoveries in the field of immune tolerance.<\/p>\n

Literature<\/strong> – L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Krasnagorkai (Hungary) – “for his captivating and visionary work, which in the midst of apocalyptic horror confirms the power of art.”<\/p>\n

Recall, earlier, US President Donald Trump said that if he does not receive the Nobel Peace Prize, it would be an insult to the United States<\/a> .<\/p>\n
