During this time, the Kremlin’s strategic goal has not changed, but now the Russians have added economic problems, so they are trying to put pressure on Ukraine as soon as possible so as not to repeat the fate of the USSR.

This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Ivan Us, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Expert of the United Ukraine Analytical Center.

“Today marks three years since Russia began attacking Ukraine’s energy sector. Nothing has changed for them. They have one method – they need to knock out Ukraine’s energy sector, and Ukraine itself will beg Russia to stop the war, that is, it will capitulate. Although Russia has not managed to do this in three years, no one has changed the method, they continue to do it. Moreover, if in 2022 it was a hint to Ukraine that let’s surrender as soon as possible, because we have the capabilities, now the situation has changed somewhat. Because the Russian Federation urgently needs to put pressure on Ukraine, otherwise the Russian economy will squeeze Russia itself,” Us noted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MelEFsGXQgw

Winter blackouts: the authorities must speak honestly with society

According to him, the Russians are currently experiencing serious economic problems, so the Kremlin fears repeating the fate of the USSR if they cannot pressure Ukraine.

“Or rather, the problems that Russia created for itself by starting a full-scale war. And now those people who are responsible for the economy in Russia and calculate the situation in advance, they say that the window of opportunity to put pressure on Ukraine is small. Because the parameters of the Russian budget indicate that the deficit there will not go anywhere. And now, for the first time in the history of Russia, when presenting the budget, the government says that this year will be difficult, but the next three years will also be difficult,” the analyst explains.

“If the draft budget of the Russian Federation is implemented and there is a planned deficit in the next three years, then this will be a total of seven years of deficit. The last time there was a seven-year deficit was after the end of the Soviet Union. Therefore, Russia is very afraid that they are on the trajectory of the collapse of the USSR. They have no other option,” summed up Ivan Us, candidate of economic sciences.

Populism Over Policy: Is Ukraine Trading Heat for Headlines This Winter?

As a reminder, as a result of the strike on Kyiv on the night of October 10, serious damage was recorded to critical infrastructure and residential buildings.
