Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky’s comments about potential strikes on Russian territory with American Tomahawk missiles. The Russian dictator said he saw these statements as “show-offs” and threatened to strengthen Russia’s air defense system.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by Russian media.<\/p>\n

During a conversation with journalists in Moscow, the Russian president was asked whether he took seriously the Ukrainian leadership’s statements about the possibility of using Tomahawks to strike the Kremlin. One of the journalists misphrased it, calling it a “staged event.”<\/p>\n

“You didn’t miss a beat. ‘Pontage’ too. Pont is here,” Putin said.<\/p>\n

He further clarified that in response to such “threats,” Moscow would continue to strengthen its air defense system.<\/p>\n

“Our response is to strengthen the air defense system of the Russian Federation,” Putin said.<\/p>\n

Journalists also mentioned US statements that the provision of long-range missiles to Ukraine depends on the Kremlin’s position on peace talks. Putin responded to this without commenting on the possibility of supplies, limiting himself to the thesis of “strengthening defense.”<\/p>\n

After that, the Russian president touched on another topic – the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado. He criticized the Nobel Committee’s decision, saying that sometimes awards are given to people who “have done nothing for peace.”<\/p>\n

“There have been cases when the committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to people who did nothing for peace. In my opinion, with these decisions they caused enormous damage to the authority of this prize,” Putin said, adding that “it is not for him to judge.”<\/p>\n

At the same time, he spoke positively about US President Donald Trump, stating that he “sincerely seeks to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.”<\/p>\n

“Whether the current US president is worthy of the Nobel Prize or not, I don’t know. But he is really doing a lot to resolve complex, years-long crises. I know that in the issue of the war in Ukraine, he sincerely wants to do this,” Putin added.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov threatened the United States with “serious consequences” if it transfers Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump said that he has almost made a decision on transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.<\/a> It is worth noting that the White House administration is concerned about whether it will be possible to control the use of such missiles<\/a> after their transfer to allies and further to the Ukrainian side.<\/p>\n

By the way, Putin stated the possible “destruction of relations” between Russia and the United States<\/a> if Washington decides to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles.<\/p>\n
