The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that North Korean troops are not participating in combat operations in the Sumy region, but instead are performing support tasks in the Kursk region of Russia. At the same time, Russian military personnel complain that North Koreans are fed better than themselves, and vacations for Russians are prohibited until the “capture of Sumy.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated in the ISW<\/a> report.<\/p>\n

North Korean troops are not fighting in the Sumy region, despite rumors of their participation in hostilities on the side of Russia. According to ISW, the DPRK troops are currently involved only in support work in the Kursk region. They are engaged in mine clearance, as well as operations to detect and destroy Ukrainian drones.<\/p>\n

The Russian military commander said that Russian instructors had been training the North Koreans in the use of drones. However, cooperation between the units had not been without problems: according to him, North Korean soldiers on duty at checkpoints sometimes blocked roads, hindering the movement of Russian artillery and equipment.<\/p>\n

At the same time, in his posts, the blogger emphasized the difference in conditions of detention between Russian and North Korean soldiers. According to him, in Russian hospitals, North Korean soldiers are fed better than Russians, and are also allowed to use mobile phones, which is prohibited for servicemen of the Russian army.<\/p>\n

Russian soldiers, for their part, are forced to buy medicine and food on their own. In addition, the command limits the possibility of receiving vacations. In particular, the new commander of the 22nd motorized rifle regiment, which is fighting in the north of Sumy region, has banned artillerymen from vacations, explaining this by the need to continue the “operation” until the “capture of Sumy.”<\/p>\n

Separately, the military commissioner reported that in the 30th Motorized Rifle Regiment, vacations are allegedly only allowed for a bribe of 150,000 rubles (approximately $1,838) per week. ISW analysts note that, despite active attempts by Russian troops to advance in the north of Sumy region, they did not achieve any confirmed success on October 10.<\/p>\n

North Korea has previously stated its readiness to assist Russia in the military sphere<\/a> if the need arises. This was discussed during a meeting between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, Ukrainian intelligence has discovered that North Korea is continuously supplying Russia with huge amounts of ammunition<\/a> , from artillery shells to ballistic missiles and multiple launch rocket systems, using sea, rail and air routes. Up to several million shells are supplied per month through just one targeted channel.<\/p>\n

As reported, North Korea is planning to transfer up to 6,000 troops and equipment to Russia in the near future.<\/a><\/p>\n
