The Council of the European Union has decided to partially or completely abolish customs duties on certain agri-food products from Ukraine. The preferential regime will apply to dairy products, fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and meat products.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the Council of the EU.<\/p>\n

As noted, the decision is part of the revision of the provisions of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between Ukraine and the European Union.<\/p>\n

Access of Ukrainian goods to the EU market will depend on the gradual harmonization of national requirements with European standards on animal welfare, pesticides, and veterinary drugs.<\/p>\n

The document also provides for a protection mechanism that can be activated by either party in the event of a market imbalance.<\/p>\n

At the same time, market access for the most sensitive sectors, including sugar, poultry, eggs, wheat, corn and honey, will remain limited and gradual. Full liberalization will only apply to selected non-sensitive products, including milk and dairy products.<\/p>\n

The decision will enter into force after approval by the EU-Ukraine Association Committee.<\/p>\n

Recall that in May, the EU was preparing to impose significantly higher tariffs on Ukrainian imports<\/a> within a few weeks, which would hit Kyiv’s economy at a crucial moment in the fight against Russian aggression.<\/p>\n
