The political crisis in Washington is deepening. US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson said that the current government shutdown could drag on longer than ever before if Democrats do not make concessions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are approaching one of the longest shutdowns in American history,” Johnson said, as quoted by<\/a> the AP.<\/p>\n

According to him, Republicans are not ready to sit down at the negotiating table until Democrats drop their key demands on health care.<\/p>\n

“I will not negotiate with Democrats until they suspend their demands… and resume work,” he stressed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is not in session because the Republican speaker refuses to summon lawmakers to Washington. Complicating matters is that Johnson said he is unaware of the details of President Donald Trump’s administration’s layoffs of thousands of federal employees as a result of the budget collapse.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that in the United States, the Senate on October 6 failed to pass either of two resolutions<\/a> that would have stopped the federal government shutdown.<\/p>\n

As is known, the administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing to publish a list of government agencies that will see massive staff cuts<\/a> after the government shutdown on October 1.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the US federal government officially shut down at midnight on October 1 due to the failure of attempts to pass temporary funding for the new budget year<\/a> . The reason was the conflict between Democrats and Republicans in Congress.<\/p>\n
