For comparison, only 72 miles (116 km) were shipped to Ukraine during the same period. Lithium-ion battery shipments also increased, from $54 million in June to $47 million in August.

Fiber-optic drones, which are controlled via a thin glass cable that unwinds during flight over 19 km, are extremely difficult to suppress with electronic warfare means.

“They are difficult to defend against. And they can cause significant damage,” said CNAS expert Samuel Bendett.

Analysts note the growing cooperation between Chinese and Russian manufacturers. Despite Beijing’s official statements of neutrality and restrictions on direct drone supplies, the supply of dual-use components has increased significantly.

As of 2023, at least 140 drone manufacturers and about 60 component suppliers have been registered in Russia. For example, Rustakt LLC imported parts from China worth more than $577 million between July 2023 and December 2024, after which it was subject to EU sanctions. Lesser-known Chinese suppliers of batteries and components, as well as structures that help set up the production of cable systems and FPV drones, are also active in this sector.

On the battlefield, lighter and longer cables allow Russian drones to penetrate deeper into Ukraine’s rear areas, striking logistics facilities, command centers, and electronic warfare systems.

Despite US and EU sanctions, trade in dual-use goods continues. In July, NATO called China a “crucial facilitator” of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Beijing, for its part, claims to comply with export control rules, but European governments have noted selective application of restrictions.

Earlier, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine recorded the facts of China’s transfer of satellite data to Russia , which was used to launch missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine. In response, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they knew nothing about this, but refrained from a clear denial.

Chinese companies are also secretly supplying Russia with components for drone production, despite international sanctions . In 2023–2024 alone, Russian firms received parts worth at least $63 million. This allows Moscow to deploy large-scale production of drones, which are used daily for terror against Ukraine.

As is known, China continues to actively support the Russian Federation . Although there are no direct supplies of weapons, the PRC provides dual-use goods used in the production of Russian drones, including equipment, parts, and machine tools.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

China has dramatically increased its supply of critical parts for the production of fiber-optic drones, significantly enhancing Russia’s ability to wage war against Ukraine.
