Petro Poroshenko\u2019s lawyer, Ilya Novikov, called the \u201csanctions\u201d against the former president a \u201cmarker\u201d of the country\u2019s state. I would go further: they are a symbol of Ukraine moving in the wrong direction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The same trend is reflected in sociological surveys: about 55% of Ukrainians now believe the country is going \u201cin the wrong direction.\u201d This indicator had previously fluctuated around \u00b15%, and now it has broken out of that range.<\/p>\n

There are clear reasons for this. The main problems cited by respondents are corruption and the standard of living. These are the issues voters will bring up with politicians during elections\u2014unless, of course, public exhaustion reaches a point where people focus on other concerns. But that is a topic for another discussion.<\/p>\n

It appears that the OP (\u201ccollective Zelenskyy\u201d) decided to \u201cpreventively\u201d (c) throw a \u201cbone\u201d to the electorate. The repressions against Poroshenko were intended to signal both a \u201cfight against the elite\u201d and a \u201cdivide-and-rule\u201d strategy, alongside other stereotypes cultivated by the marketing models of the \u201cquarter.\u201d At the same time, Poroshenko could be removed from the race. Back in January 2014, his rating had already been painted as \u201con the verge of single digits.\u201d We know how that ended.<\/p>\n\t\t
