On October 15, a meeting of NATO defense ministers will take place in Brussels, including a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council. Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal will participate for the first time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Military observer Denis Popovich reported this in a commentary to “Pryamoy”.<\/p>\n

On the same day, a meeting of the participating countries of the contact group in the Ramstein format, which includes 52 states, will take place.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

One of the key issues at the NATO allies’ meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning will be the expansion of the PURL aid program for Ukraine, which provides for the purchase of American weapons at the expense of European allies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to Popovych, seven more countries may join the PURL initiative; six countries currently participate in the program. Each aid package in this format includes air defense assets designed to protect Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It is expected that Ukraine may receive 10-11 new aid packages under the PURL program in the coming months.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As a reminder, NATO is preparing a new support package for Ukraine.<\/a> This week, new commitments from allies may be announced under the PURL program, an international initiative for centralized arms supplies to Kyiv.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that partners contributed $1.5 billion to NATO’s PURL initiative<\/a> , which allows Ukraine to receive weapons from the United States.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, in September,the Trump administration approved the first two NATO-funded military aid packages for Ukraine<\/a> . These are the PURL (Purpose of Relief and Response) mechanisms, which allow for the rapid delivery of weapons from US stockpiles using funding from allies.<\/p>\n
