Lithuania and Estonia announced new contributions to the PURL initiative, which aims to jointly purchase weapons for Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile \u0160akalien\u0117 stated that Vilnius is ready to allocate $30 million for this program and expects the next allied aid package to be formed soon.<\/p>\n

“Lithuania is ready to allocate $30 million for PURL. We can transfer this money today if needed, and we very much hope that the next package will be formed as soon as possible,” \u0160akalien\u0117 noted.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In turn, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur announced that his country will transfer a batch of drones worth tens of millions of euros to Ukraine this week and will join the Nordic-Baltic aid package under the PURL.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“We’ve decided to also donate a large number of drones worth tens of millions of euros this week. Our contribution will be $12 million,” Pevkur said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, the Nordic-Baltic aid package will be completed in the near future \u2013 perhaps even today.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Four aid packages, each valued at approximately half a billion dollars, have already been agreed upon under the PURL initiative. The next package is being developed for the Nordic and Baltic countries.<\/p>\n

Earlier, “Pryamiy” reported that a meeting of NATO defense ministers would take place in Brussels on October 15<\/a> , during which a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council would be held. Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal will participate for the first time.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As a reminder, NATO is preparing a new support package for Ukraine.<\/a> This week, new commitments from allies may be announced under the PURL program, an international initiative for centralized arms supplies to Kyiv.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that partners contributed $1.5 billion to NATO’s PURL initiative<\/a> , which allows Ukraine to receive weapons from the United States.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, in September,the Trump administration approved the first two NATO-funded military aid packages for Ukraine<\/a> . These are the PURL (Purpose of Relief and Response) mechanisms, which allow for the rapid delivery of weapons from US stockpiles using funding from allies.<\/p>\n
