US President Donald Trump said he is optimistic about the prospects for peace in Ukraine \u2014 especially after the successful hostage exchange in the Middle East.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> Politico, citing sources in the White House.<\/p>\n

Trump is scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, part of a coordinated Ukrainian campaign to shift the administration’s focus from the Middle East to confronting Russia, the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n

Observers note that Trump has previously acknowledged that the situation in Ukraine is much more complicated than he initially anticipated. However, recently the administration has regained faith in a diplomatic breakthrough. One White House official (on condition of anonymity) said:<\/p>\n

“President Trump has long sought to end the war between Russia and Ukraine \u2014 just as he achieved the release of hostages and the quelling of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.”<\/p>\n

The official also emphasized that economic and military pressure should force Russia to sit at the negotiating table:<\/p>\n

“If they (the Russians) were smart, they would be more actively looking for a way to an agreement to stop the bloodshed and improve their international reputation. Putin has repeatedly rejected favorable peace proposals.”<\/p>\n

According to the official, Trump hopes he can persuade both sides to reduce the bloodshed.<\/p>\n

Politico sources report that Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff has outlined three key foreign policy ambitions for his second term: ending the conflict in Gaza, peace in Ukraine, and a new nuclear deal with Iran.<\/p>\n

The White House acknowledges that of these three scenarios, the Gaza conflict is likely to be the most quickly resolved. But at the same time, the interlocutors add, success in one direction could create momentum for a solution in others.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump is approaching a decision that could significantly change the balance of power in the war: the possible transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. This is not only a step in support of Kyiv – it is also aimed at putting political pressure on the US’s European partners, in particular Germany, which is still hesitant to provide its own long-range Taurus missiles.<\/a><\/p>\n
