Relations between Kyiv and Washington have noticeably warmed after the Ukrainian side realized that Donald Trump is now the focus of the US administration. Ukrainian officials are demonstrating a new confidence that they largely attribute to the US president.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite intense Russian airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, optimism remains in Kyiv, believing that by spring or summer 2026, Vladimir Putin may be ready to begin talks to end the war.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a closed-door session of parliament, President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested that Russia’s latest large-scale offensive in eastern Ukraine could take place soon. He also stressed that the country would have to endure another difficult winter, but that there was a possibility of a cessation of hostilities.<\/p>\n

According to Zelensky, to achieve peace, it is necessary to increase economic and military pressure on the Kremlin so that Putin realizes the futility of the war that is draining Russia of its blood. After the successful ceasefire in Gaza, Donald Trump expressed his intention to make efforts to stop the war in Ukraine, winning a new victory in his political career.<\/p>\n

This week, a Ukrainian delegation led by the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, and Prime Minister Yulia Svirydenko, was in Washington to discuss ways to leverage Putin’s negotiating power and help Ukraine withstand the winter airstrikes. Zelensky himself plans to visit the White House on Friday for a personal meeting with Trump. Kyiv is hopeful for positive developments.<\/p>\n

In his speech to the Knesset, Trump stressed that his top priority was to end the war between Ukraine and Russia: “First we have to finish off Russia,” he said. Last month, Trump effectively recognized Russia as the aggressor, changing his rhetoric on the conflict.<\/p>\n

The rapprochement between Trump and Zelenskyy began after several tense meetings earlier this year, including Trump’s controversial meeting with Putin in Alaska. At the time, he was viewed critically in Ukraine and Europe, but now the relationship has changed dramatically.<\/p>\n

Thanks to Zelensky’s diplomatic work and the support of Western allies, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles, Trump began to view Ukraine more positively. This was confirmed at the UN General Assembly, where he called Zelensky “a brave man” and supported the return of lost territories.<\/p>\n

In addition, the US has stepped up intelligence sharing with the Ukrainian military for effective strikes on Russian energy facilities. The possibility of transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine to deter the Kremlin is being discussed, although Trump has so far refrained from decisive steps due to the risk of escalation.<\/p>\n

Despite the unpredictability of the US president, the Ukrainian side recognizes that the current Donald Trump is a more reliable ally than at the beginning of the year, and hopes for further strengthening of cooperation.<\/p>\n
