Energy experts predict an electricity shortage this winter. Due to large-scale damage to generation and limited restoration options, Ukrainians may face a \u201c4 hours without power, 2 hours with power.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to<\/a> representatives of state-owned energy companies, in one or two massive attacks, Russia is capable of destroying more generation capacity than Ukraine can restore in an entire summer.<\/p>\n

\u201c This winter will definitely be in short supply. Emergency shutdowns are already in effect almost throughout the country. Most likely, a \u201c4×2\u201d scenario awaits us in the winter<\/em> ,\u201d said one of the industry\u2019s top managers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The greatest risk arises in frontline and border regions – Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Odessa, and Kherson regions.<\/p>\n

The main reason is the limited effectiveness of air defense: in massive attacks, even the most modern systems cannot intercept all missiles and drones. One precise hit can disable a power unit or substation for several weeks.<\/p>\n

On November 23, 2022, Ukraine experienced the largest blackout in its history. At that time, the power system was stabilized in just 24 hours, and full restoration of power supply in the regions took up to a week.<\/p>\n

Energy experts warn that even in the most optimistic scenario, Ukraine will operate in a deficit in the winter. The restoration of energy facilities is ongoing, but the pace remains lower than necessary.<\/p>\n

Recall that Russia has switched to a new tactic of attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector<\/a> – not massive strikes across the country, but the gradual destruction of the energy system region by region.<\/p>\n

It was also previously reported that during a closed meeting on October 10, President Volodymyr Zelensky sharply criticized government officials for the lack of systemic responsibility<\/a> in the field of energy infrastructure protection.<\/p>\n
