In September 2025, the Russian army was able to occupy a much smaller area of Ukrainian territory than a month earlier.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> British intelligence in its report on the social network X.<\/p>\n

According to the British side, last month the occupiers advanced by approximately 250 square kilometers, while in August this figure reached about 465 sq. km. The decrease in the pace of advance, according to analysts, is associated with the redeployment of part of the troops to other directions.<\/p>\n

“This follows a moderate monthly decrease in the number of captured territories from June to August 2025. The noticeable decrease in the number of captured territories from August to September 2025 is very likely due to the fact that Russian forces focused on redeploying several Russian divisions along the front line, including airborne divisions, from Sumy region to Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions,” the report says.<\/p>\n

Intelligence also notes that despite the slowdown in the pace of occupation, hostilities continue in several directions at once. Russian troops continue their offensive in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where battles are underway for Oleksiyivka and Novohryhorivka, and in early or mid-October, they probably captured Verbovye.<\/p>\n

“Russian forces are fighting for most of Kupyansk, Kharkiv region. According to reports, Russian forces have captured most of the high-rise buildings in the northern half of the city, and Ukrainian forces are conducting operations to clear them. In addition, Russian forces continue intensive efforts to surround Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, a key Ukrainian logistical hub in Donbas,” the report added.<\/p>\n

Recall that earlier, British intelligence reported that the Russian army lost more than 300,000 soldiers killed and wounded<\/a> in 2025 alone.<\/p>\n

Russia has also seen a decline in the number of volunteers agreeing to fight against Ukraine<\/a> , indicating that the financial incentives used by the Kremlin to recruit soldiers are losing effectiveness.<\/p>\n
