Petro Poroshenko, participating in the Political Assembly of the European People’s Party in Vilnius, met with members of the Lithuanian parliament and discussed the security situation on the continent and strengthening support for Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In particular, the fifth President discussed key security challenges facing Ukraine and Europe, effective responses, and tools for advancing the negotiation process to end the war with Laurynas Ka\u0161\u010di\u016bnas, the leader of the Homeland Union \u2013 Lithuanian Christian Democrats party. <\/p>\n

“I thanked Lithuania for its political leadership in supporting Ukraine in repelling Russian aggression and integrating into the EU and NATO. We agreed on the need to promptly open the ‘Basics’ cluster as part of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations, which will provide a significant boost to the implementation of democratic reforms. We discussed the state of democracy and the rule of law in Ukraine, in particular, issues of political persecution and the use of extrajudicial sanctions. We agreed to deepen inter-party cooperation, particularly within our political family, the European People’s Party,” Petro Poroshenko wrote on social media<\/a> . <\/p>\n

The leader of European Solidarity also met with Vice-Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Radvila Mork\u016bnait\u0117-Mikulenieni\u0117, the leadership of key parliamentary committees and the Christian Democratic faction in the Seimas. <\/p>\n

“We discussed political and security issues in Ukraine, prospects for developments on the battlefield and in the diplomatic realm, as well as the progress of democratic reforms and the negotiation process for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. It’s important that our Lithuanian partners pay attention not only to the government’s positions but also listen to the arguments of the democratic opposition. This approach demonstrates genuine political culture and strategic thinking,” Poroshenko said<\/a> . <\/p>\n

“I emphasized the need to create two complementary packages of guarantees for Ukraine: security and democracy. Only a strong, institutionally stable, and democratic Ukraine can guarantee victory in the war, become a reliable partner for its allies, and an integral part of a united Europe. We discussed in detail the lessons that all European democracies must learn to strengthen Europe’s shared ability to counter the Kremlin’s aggressive policies and hybrid threats. I expressed deep gratitude to Lithuania and the Lithuanian people for their consistent, principled, and sincere support for Ukraine. Shared values, unity, and strategic vision make our partnership with Lithuania truly special,” noted Petro Poroshenko.<\/p>\n
