At the same time, the American leader will not demand humiliating concessions from Ukraine.

This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Ihor Reiterovych, head of political and legal programs of the NGO “Ukrainian Center for Social Development”.

“For seven months, Putin led him (Trump – ed.) by the nose, by and large. All previous conversations ended very sadly for Trump in terms of the reaction of Americans, the media, representatives of the Republican Party… Many factors indicate that Trump, apparently, once again – perhaps for the last time – offered Putin the option of saving face. There were clearly complementary things there. That is, no one will put Putin in a “sue” position,” Reuterovich noted.

https://youtu.be/JEowSxA_XEY?t=162

The Tomahawk and the Carrot: When Dictators Flirt with Democracy

In his opinion, during a conversation with the Kremlin dictator, Trump promised him help in ending the war against Ukraine without reputational losses.

“Maybe Trump told him, look, that’s a great option, we’ll meet and chat: ‘We’ll talk about all this, come to an agreement. It’s a senseless war. You’re killing Ukrainians, you’re killing Russians because you’re sending them there. I’ll give you a chance to get out of this war.'” By the way, that’s what Trump started with. His first post after the inauguration, which concerned Russia, was like this: “Volodya, I’ll help you. I’m so kind, I can help you get out of where you’re stuck.” I think he’s returned to this rhetoric somewhere and is giving him another chance to meet and finish something,” the studio guest reflects.

Instead, for Ukraine, the political scientist believes, it is important that Trump again does not believe Putin and his “red lines.”

“The main thing in this story for us is not a story with weapons and Tomahawks. We will most likely get all of this. Trump can give 20 Tomahawks or 50 and say that this is the US contribution to security guarantees for Ukraine… The Europeans will pay, and the Ukrainians will receive. But the main thing here is that Trump is not led by any of Putin’s “red lines” now. As pro-Russian Telegram channels write, Trump will put Zelensky before the fact – they say, the war ends tomorrow, you come to Budapest, you give something there. But that will not happen. Trump will definitely not make any such demands on Ukraine, because it will look humiliating to him,” Reuterovich noted.

Even more American weapons: how the updated PURL program will help Ukraine

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump shared the first details of his telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on the evening of October 16. The American leader stressed that the conversation was productive, as was the fact that Putin congratulated him on his great success in resolving the war in the Middle East.

Now the US president intends to meet with the Kremlin leader in Hungary in order to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Trump also confirmed that he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on October 17. In fact, he intends to discuss with Zelensky the details of his conversation with Putin.

In addition, US President Donald Trump considers a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to be quite real and does not rule out that it could take place soon.

Instead, the Kremlin reported that the conversation between Putin and Trump lasted about two and a half hours, “was substantive in nature and was extremely frank and trusting.” In particular, Putin assured Trump that the supply of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine would significantly affect US-Russian relations . He added that the weapons would not affect the situation on the front in any way.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

US President Donald Trump has once again offered to save face for Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin by promising to help end the war without reputational damage.
