The leaders are discussing military support for Kyiv, the supply of Tomahawk missiles, the prospects for peace talks with Russia and the possibility of putting pressure on the Kremlin. During the conversation, both presidents made a number of high-profile statements about the future of the war, security guarantees for Ukraine and the role of the United States in achieving peace.

As reported by Fox News, the Ukrainian leader’s motorcade arrived at the residence of the American president at 8:28 p.m. Kyiv time, although the official start of the meeting was scheduled for 8:00 p.m.

Trump personally met Zelensky at the entrance to the White House. The leaders shook hands, posed briefly for the press, and reporters began asking questions – including whether the American president believed he could convince Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war.

“Yes, we can,” Trump declared.

The American president expressed high praise for his Ukrainian colleague: “He is a very strong leader who has been through a lot. We get along great.”

Trump also said he plans to discuss with Zelensky the results of his phone call with Putin.

“Today we will talk about my conversation with Putin yesterday, where certain principles were outlined, and we will see if we can resolve it,” he said.

There was no shortage of jokes. The American president drew the attention of journalists to his guest’s outfit, noting: “He’s wearing a cool suit. Very like it!”.

The President of Ukraine, in turn, emphasized that a common position of the allies is needed to end the war.

“We understand that Putin is not ready (to end the war), but I am confident that with your help we will be able to end this war,” Zelenskyy said.

When asked about the possibility of launching deep strikes on Russian territory using American weapons, Trump responded with restraint.

“We will discuss it, it is an escalation, but we will discuss it,” he emphasized.

Commenting on the upcoming summit in Budapest, Trump noted that “it will most likely be my bilateral meeting with Putin, but we will be in contact with Zelensky. There is a lot of animosity between the two presidents (Zelensky and Putin).” He also assured that the Ukrainian president would remain involved in the negotiation process.

“President Zelensky will be in touch with us when I meet with Putin,” Trump added.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine seeks peace, while Russia is not ready for it, and significant pressure needs to be exerted on Putin.

“Ukraine also needs very clear security guarantees. This is the most important thing. I think we need to sit down and talk. Next, we need a ceasefire. We want peace, Putin doesn’t,” the head of state emphasized.

He also emphasized Kyiv’s readiness for negotiations in any format. “We will talk to President Trump about what we need, we understand what we need to push Putin to the negotiating table. We are ready to talk in any format: bilateral or trilateral.”

US President Donald Trump has once again stressed the importance of military support for Ukraine. According to him, it is precisely strengthening the defense potential that can bring the end of the war closer.

“We need the Tomahawks and a lot of the other weapons that we’re sending to Ukraine. That’s one of the reasons we want to end this war,” Trump said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his comments, drew attention to the difference in the approaches of the current American leader from his predecessor. He expressed hope that Trump will be able to use his influence to end the war.

“Biden is not the president now, he does not have such a chance. Trump has shown how he can manage a ceasefire in the Middle East, I hope he will be able to do it here too, this is a great chance for Ukraine,” the President of Ukraine said.

The American president expressed cautious optimism about the prospects for ending the war. He hinted that a diplomatic solution to the conflict might be possible even without the use of long-range missiles.

“Hopefully we can end the war without thinking about Tomahawks. We’re pretty close to that,” he added.

Donald Trump praised both leaders – Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin – as strong negotiators. At the same time, he acknowledged that the personal enmity between them significantly complicates the path to peace.

“In that sense, they’re both doing great. We have to do that. We have to get rid of some of the hatred for each other. You know, they don’t like each other. I say this to President Zelensky, but I also say this to President Putin. They have a huge animosity. That’s really what I think is preventing a settlement. I think we will do it,” the American leader said.

Trump has acknowledged that the US is interested in Ukrainian drone development. There is even talk of a deal under which Kyiv could hand over drones to the US in exchange for permission to use Tomahawk missiles.

“We offer the US a deal. We give them drones, and they give us Tomahawks and other weapons. To hit a military target, you need to use hundreds of drones together with Tomahawks. We have drones, but we don’t have Tomahawks,” Zelensky said.

Trump replied: “They make very good drones. But there’s nothing better than jets. Yeah, I’d be [interested]… we have a lot of drones now. We build our own drones, but we also buy drones from others, and they [Ukraine] make very good drones.”

Trump also mentioned his recent conversation with the Russian dictator. He hinted that he heard a lot of unexpected things from Putin and expressed confidence in the possibility of ending the war.

“Putin told me a lot of things yesterday that were impressive,” Trump said.

“I like to end wars. Success will be achieved in this war (Russia against Ukraine). Wait,” the American president noted.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived at the White House for a meeting with Donald Trump, which has become the key event of the day in Washington.
