The blocking of international travel for opposition representatives has become a tool of manipulation by the authorities, according<\/a> to the CHESTNO Movement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In particular, the publication cites an example of repeated travel bans imposed on the fifth President, European Solidarity leader Petro Poroshenko.<\/p>\n

“Business trips by members of parliament should be an important tool for Ukraine’s international cooperation. It is through parliamentary diplomacy that contacts with foreign governments are established, European integration processes are implemented, support for Ukraine in the war is strengthened, and, in general, the state’s strategic interests are advanced,” the CHESTNO Movement notes.<\/p>\n

“Transparency of missions allows the public to monitor whether individual parliamentarians are restricted in their right to represent Ukraine abroad, and whether all parliamentary forces have equal access to international cooperation.
A telling example is the situation with former President and People’s Deputy Petro Poroshenko, who repeatedly stated that he was denied permission to travel on business trips,” the publication states.<\/p>\n

“Another telling example is that of Roman Kostenko, a Golos MP and Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, whose trip to the Munich Security Conference was cancelled just before his departure. According to the MP, he was initially told the trip was confirmed, but later, he misunderstood and the trip was not there,” the CHESTNO Movement stated.<\/p>\n

Such precedents demonstrate that even “no-travel” orders can be a manipulative tool for controlling the right of representation and once again highlight the need for a publicly accessible travel registry with a transparent approval mechanism.<\/p>\n

To prevent abuse and politicization of this process and to at least partially restore trust in parliament, the travel system must become transparent and accountable, according to public activists.<\/p>\n
