In Ukraine, due to regular power outages, farmers expect an increase in the cost of food production. Vegetables, meat, and dairy products will become the most expensive, some of which may increase in price by 20\u201330%.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Denys Marchuk, explained that due to power outages, producers will have to switch to generators. This will significantly increase production costs.<\/p>\n

“If we look at the working conditions of commodity producers, today we are talking about everything that will require additional electricity. It will be necessary to invest in alternative modes of using generators. Accordingly, this will increase the price of the products they have assembled,” the expert noted.<\/p>\n

He gave the example of grain crops, which after harvest need to be dried and stored in elevators. These processes require uninterrupted power supply, so the use of generators will become inevitable.<\/p>\n

“If there is no electricity and there are no other alternatives, then, of course, generators are an additional financial burden,” Marchuk emphasized.<\/p>\n

A similar situation is observed in the vegetable sector. Enterprises that store crops are already using generators with a capacity of over one hundred kilowatts, which, according to the expert, is “quite expensive per hour of use.”<\/p>\n

According to farmers, long power outages \u2014 up to twelve hours a day \u2014 can lead to an increase in food prices by approximately 20\u201330%.<\/p>\n

Marchuk added that power outages affect the entire production cycle of meat and dairy products – from the milking process to the cooling and storage of milk.<\/p>\n

“Commodity dairy farms are completely dependent on electricity: from milking the milk, to pumping it to cooling systems and further storage in cold storage rooms,” he explained.<\/p>\n

According to the expert, additional costs for fuel and generators will eventually be included in the cost of production.<\/p>\n

“All this will be reflected in the wallets of Ukrainians,” Marchuk concluded.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that electricity prices for the population will remain unchanged<\/a> . The Cabinet of Ministers extended the imposition of special obligations on electricity until April 30, 2026.<\/p>\n

Let us remind you that in Ukraine, most vegetables have become significantly cheaper<\/a> , while in the fruit and berry segment there are mixed dynamics – some items have increased in price, while others, on the contrary, have become more affordable.<\/p>\n
