Ukraine has proposed to Japan to expand the Emergency Recovery Program, providing for new joint projects and additional assistance in the form of energy equipment, pumps, and machinery for regions affected by Russian shelling.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

During her official visit to Tokyo, First Deputy Minister Alyona Shkrum held more than ten meetings with representatives of the government, business, and international agencies. In particular, she discussed prospects for cooperation with the leadership of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of Japan, as well as with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ukraine’s key partner in reconstruction.<\/p>\n

“Currently, twelve Japanese companies are working in Ukraine – they help rebuild infrastructure, supply equipment, and support local communities,” Shkrum emphasized.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Ministry is coordinating the four phases of the Emergency Recovery Program implemented by JICA. The total amount of support is 700 million US dollars. The initiative covers projects in the areas of energy, transport, health, education, water supply, waste management and humanitarian demining.<\/p>\n

Ukraine proposed to expand the program to Sumy, Chernihiv, and Zaporizhia regions, as well as provide additional energy equipment for Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odessa, and Kyiv.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During the trip, Shkrum also met with the leadership of the Japan Recovery Agency, established after the Fukushima disaster in 2011. The parties agreed on further cooperation, exchange of experience, and adaptation of the Japanese recovery model to Ukrainian realities.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“We strive to create our own \u2014 Ukrainian \u2014 effective reconstruction system. There are eleven front-line regions in the country that require special attention. Six years after the tragedy, Japan began its economic miracle, and twenty-five years later it became the second largest economy in the world. Ukraine is also capable of this \u2014 we have the strength, partners, and faith,” Shkrum noted.<\/p>\n

We also recall that the EU announced the signing of agreements for Ukraine for 2.3 billion euros<\/a> in the form of loan guarantees and grants.<\/p>\n

It was also previously reported that on July 10, the European Fund for Global Support and Reconstruction of Ukraine began its work<\/a> .<\/p>\n
