No concrete plans, no clear answers \u2014 only the echo of familiar phrases drifting through a city already running on endurance.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"166\" data-end=\"346\"><strong data-start=\"166\" data-end=\"207\">What awaits us this winter \u2014 for now?<\/strong><br data-start=\"207\" data-end=\"210\" \/>I repeat: <em data-start=\"220\" data-end=\"229\">for now<\/em>, because the situation changes by the day. The Russians attack, the authorities repair, the Russians attack again.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"348\" data-end=\"547\">Indoor temperatures are expected to hover between +5 and +10\u00b0C, depending on the weather. Any attempt to heat with electricity will overload the grids, triggering rolling blackouts every few hours.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"549\" data-end=\"739\">What do the Russians want? Naturally, they don\u2019t care whether we freeze or sit in darkness \u2014 their goal is far simpler: to exhaust, to demoralize, to make survival itself feel like defeat.<\/p>\n\t\t<aside class=\"shortcode-also\" data-title=\"Read also\" >\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/the-authorities-are-not-ready-to-talk-honestly-with-ukrainians-how-will-kyiv-survive-the-difficult-winter\/\">The authorities are not ready to talk honestly with Ukrainians: how will Kyiv survive the difficult winter?<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\n<p data-start=\"147\" data-end=\"323\">The enemy aims to <strong data-start=\"169\" data-end=\"203\">break the capital\u2019s population<\/strong>, to provoke riots and chaos, and coerce the authorities into accepting their terms. Will they succeed? I do not know.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"325\" data-end=\"427\">I can only hope that people have the wisdom to see what is happening and to recognize who is to blame.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"429\" data-end=\"444\"><strong>What to expect:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"445\" data-end=\"809\">\n<li data-start=\"445\" data-end=\"484\">\n<p data-start=\"447\" data-end=\"484\">There will be no widespread hunger.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"485\" data-end=\"521\">\n<p data-start=\"487\" data-end=\"521\">Fuel supplies will be available.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"553\">\n<p data-start=\"524\" data-end=\"553\">Water supplies should hold.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"554\" data-end=\"676\">\n<p data-start=\"556\" data-end=\"676\">The city administration will do its utmost to keep hospitals, kindergartens, and other critical infrastructure running.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"738\">\n<p data-start=\"679\" data-end=\"738\">There will be heating centers and similar support points.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"809\">\n<p data-start=\"741\" data-end=\"809\">Mobile networks and the internet are expected to remain operational.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"107\" data-end=\"131\"><strong data-start=\"107\" data-end=\"129\">What I can advise:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"132\" data-end=\"583\">\n<li data-start=\"132\" data-end=\"256\">\n<p data-start=\"134\" data-end=\"256\">Buy generators and extension cords, either with your neighbors or individually, and keep a small supply of fuel on hand.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"257\" data-end=\"481\">\n<p data-start=\"259\" data-end=\"481\">Recommendations to leave Kyiv for the winter are, frankly, somewhat impractical. Most people have nowhere to go. But if you have a dacha with a stove or relatives in the countryside, it\u2019s worth considering a backup plan.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"482\" data-end=\"583\">\n<p data-start=\"484\" data-end=\"583\">Consider autonomous diesel heaters, but remember that they require proper venting to the outside.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"585\" data-end=\"755\">Of course, we will survive \u2014 but it will be difficult.
