If this pace continues, October deliveries could set a new monthly record.

Since the EU banned fuel imports from Russia in 2023, the bloc has been actively looking for alternative suppliers. The ban has disrupted traditional trade chains and forced Europe to increase purchases from India and other countries. Now, the EU’s upcoming plans to limit fuel from Russian oil refining could create new tensions in the market and force a review of supply routes during the high heating season.

Increased pressure is also being felt by individual exporting countries and traders delivering cargo after the US added Russian companies Rosneft and Lukoil to the sanctions list.

In addition, the partial closure of oil refineries in Europe — both temporary and permanent — creates additional risks to the stability of supplies.

At the same time, high fuel prices are opening up opportunities for traders to make money on shipments to the EU through so-called open arbitrage. Uncertainty about future restrictions, which will come into effect in January, may encourage exporters to increase shipments in the coming months.

As a reminder, the Donald Trump administration has announced the first major package of financial restrictions aimed at the Russian economy . This move is part of Washington’s new strategy, the aim of which is to force the Kremlin to end its war against Ukraine.

By the way, after the introduction of new sanctions against Russian energy companies, Indian oil refineries temporarily stopped placing new orders for the supply of Russian oil.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

Imports of diesel and aviation fuel into EU countries are rising to record levels in October, as traders prepare for the winter season and expected restrictions on petroleum products made from Russian raw materials.
