Despite the various scenarios currently being considered by the government, the launch of centralized heating systems in the country will take place as planned – from October 28.

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Kostyantyn Kovalchuk during a briefing at Ukrinform.

“We are starting in conditions of unprecedented enemy attacks on energy infrastructure. Generation, distribution, and heat supply facilities have come under fire. A difficult winter is ahead, and we are preparing for it as responsibly as possible,” the official emphasized.

According to Kovalchuk, as of now, heat has been supplied to over 55% of social infrastructure facilities in 20 regions of the country – kindergartens, schools, hospitals. In eight regions, partial connection of residential buildings has already begun, but this has not yet become widespread.

The official explained that under favorable weather conditions, heat was not supplied to the housing stock, because the warm October met the standards that allow the launch of the systems to be postponed.

Kovalchuk recalled the criteria by which local authorities make decisions about the start of the heating season:

the average daily temperature is below +8°C for three consecutive days;

forecast of further temperature decrease.

According to the Deputy Minister, the current weather forecast indicates that relatively warm weather will persist in Ukraine in the coming days. At the same time, communities are recommended to promptly make decisions on supplying heat to residential buildings in the event of a cold snap or requests from residents.

Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk reported that nine power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants located in the controlled territory are operating normally. All scheduled repairs have been carried out on time, and restoration work after the shelling has been completed on schedule.

Some repairs are underway at facilities that were repeatedly hit by attacks. According to Kolisnyk, the government has formed a reserve of emergency repair materials and created additional sources of energy supply, including distributed generation systems — for example, solar stations at social infrastructure facilities.

“We expect continued attacks, so we are working to stay ahead of the curve. Ukraine also counts on further support from partners to steadily go through this heating season,” Kolisnyk emphasized.

He urged citizens to consume electricity rationally to reduce the load on the system.

Serhiy Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, stated that to ensure a stable heating season in 2025/2026, Ukraine will need to import an additional 4 billion cubic meters of gas. The cost of this resource is estimated at 1.9 billion US dollars.

“We have a clear plan for additional purchases. A significant part of the financing has already been secured jointly with the government. We remain cautiously optimistic about attracting the remaining funds and are confident in the stable course of the season,” Koretsky said.

As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the official start of the heating season is scheduled for October 28.

As reported, the heating season in Kyiv will officially start tomorrow, October 29.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

Heating and utility companies in Ukraine have completed preparations for winter and are ready to start the heating season.
