The Furia tanker, carrying Russian oil bound for India, changed course and stopped in the Baltic Sea after the US tightened sanctions against Russian oil companies.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Furia, which is under EU and UK sanctions, was heading through the strait between Denmark and Germany when it turned around and abruptly slowed down on Tuesday, according to ship tracking data.<\/p>\n

According to Kpler, the vessel was carrying oil sold by Rosneft<\/em> . The turnaround in the Fehmarn Belt occurred a week after the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against Rosneft<\/em> and Lukoil<\/em> . The department clarified that all transactions with these companies must be completed by November 21.<\/p>\n

The tanker Furia loaded approximately 730,000 barrels of oil at the port of Primorsk on October 20. The vessel was initially bound for the Indian port of Sikka, but subsequently changed its destination to Port Said, Egypt\u2014a typical stopover before transiting the Suez Canal.<\/p>\n
