Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken said that any Russian attack on the territory of a NATO member country would be met with a harsh response \u2014 in particular, in the event of a strike on Brussels, \u201cMoscow would be razed to the ground.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said<\/a> this in an interview with the Belgian newspaper De Morgen.<\/p>\n

Franken stressed that Western countries should not allow the Kremlin to intimidate them with threats. When asked by a journalist about a possible missile strike by Putin on the Belgian capital, the minister replied without hesitation:<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I\u2019m not afraid. After all, if he really does it, he will strike at the very heart of NATO \u2014 and then we will raze Moscow to the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

These words provoked a sharp reaction from the Russian embassy in Belgium. In a statement, the diplomatic mission called Franken’s statements “provocative” and “irresponsible.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThe minister\u2019s adventures, unfortunately, are the embodiment of the militaristic frenzy that is increasingly gripping the European war party,\u201d the Russian diplomats said in a statement.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Belgian Defense Minister clarified that he does not believe in Putin’s readiness to openly attack a NATO country. Instead, he is more concerned about the risks of Russia’s hybrid actions \u2014 in particular, possible provocations in the guise of “little green men” in the Baltic countries.<\/p>\n

“Imagine – ‘little green men’ appear in Estonia, incite the Russian-speaking minority against the so-called ‘Nazi regime.’ And before everyone has time to come to their senses – they annex part of Estonia,” Franken gave the example.<\/p>\n

After the interview, the Belgian minister’s statements are being actively discussed in the media and diplomatic circles.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, several unidentified drones were spotted over a military base in Wallonia in Belgium<\/a> . The country’s Ministry of Defense believes that this is not a coincidence, but a targeted reconnaissance operation.<\/p>\n
