US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to temporarily suspend export restrictions on rare earth metals, part of a broader year-long trade deal reached at a summit in South Korea.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Trump, the meeting was “incredible” and deserves a “12” on a scale of 0 to 10. The US President said that the parties agreed on “a set of important decisions” and the signing of the agreement is expected in the near future.<\/p>\n

One of the key agreements was the settlement of the so-called “rare earth dispute,” which arose after China announced new export restrictions. Trump also announced a reduction in tariffs on Chinese goods from 20% to 10%, explaining this by Beijing’s promise to more actively control exports of fentanyl precursors.<\/p>\n

The leaders also touched on the topic of semiconductors during the talks. In particular, Nvidia will begin discussions on exporting chips to China, although the issue of cutting-edge technologies is not yet on the agenda.<\/p>\n

The US president added that he plans to visit China in April, and Xi Jinping will make a return visit to the US. Chinese state media has not yet confirmed the details of the agreement, limiting itself to general statements about the intention to “strengthen cooperation in trade, economy and energy”.<\/p>\n

Xi Jinping stressed that trade disputes should not become a source of conflict between the two countries, and cooperation should be a “ballast” in bilateral relations, not a point of tension.<\/p>\n
