Lithuanian Railways (LTG) has announced the suspension of the transit of Russian oil products from Lukoil to the Kaliningrad region. This decision was made due to new US and UK sanctions imposed against Rosneft and Lukoil.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is noted that last year LTG transported 371 thousand tons of petroleum products to the Kaliningrad region, of which 345 thousand tons were Lukoil products.<\/p>\n

In 2025, 194,000 tons of oil from this producer were transported to and from the Russian exclave. Rosneft oil was not transported through Lithuania either last year or this year.<\/p>\n

US sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil will come into effect on November 21. By that time, the companies must complete or terminate all transactions with sanctioned entities. The United Kingdom began applying similar restrictions in mid-October.<\/p>\n

According to European Union rules, the transportation of Russian petroleum products to EU countries has been prohibited since December 2022. At the same time, an exception applies to Lithuania, which allows transit to the Kaliningrad region exclusively by rail to meet the region’s basic needs.<\/p>\n

Previously, Lukoil continued to operate in Europe because it is a private company and was not subject to some of the restrictions imposed on state-owned energy corporations. After the new sanctions were imposed, the company announced the sale of its subsidiaries to Swiss oil trading company Gunvor.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that during a speech at the UN General Assembly , Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced the termination of contracts and the transit of Russian gas in 2026.<\/a><\/p>\n

On the eve, European states promised Washington to finally abandon imports of Russian energy resources<\/a> by the beginning of 2027.<\/p>\n
