Lithuanian and Russian energy companies are negotiating an extension of the gas transit agreement to Kaliningrad, which expires in December 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

LRT<\/a> reports this.<\/p>\n

According to the publication, Lithuanian operator Amber Grid and Russia’s Gazprom may agree on a shorter term for the new contract and higher service fees.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The European Commission has been informed of the negotiations, as the decision to extend transit must be made with the participation of EU institutions, and not only bilaterally.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da stated that he sees no obstacles to extending the contract if it is beneficial to Vilnius and complies with European standards.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lithuania earns up to 20 million euros annually from transit, while, according to LRT, the average income is around 12 million euros.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lithuania completely stopped importing Russian gas in April 2022, leaving only transit to the Kaliningrad region through its territory.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Earlier, the Lithuanian government decided to close the border with<\/a> Belarus from October 30 to November 30, with the possibility of extension.<\/p>\n
