The Russian economy is in a state of systemic decline, which even official reports can no longer mask.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (SVR) reported this.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to intelligence data, the net profit of Russian enterprises for the first eight months of 2025 decreased by 8.3%, indicating a contraction in business activity. The credit market is also showing signs of crisis: 23% of legal entities have become problematic borrowers, and more than 165,000 companies are no longer able to service their debts.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“This is a signal that the corporate sector has lost financial stability,” the SVR noted.<\/p>\n

The Coal Industry: From an Export Engine to an Unprofitable Niche<\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

Intelligence emphasizes that the situation has become particularly critical in the coal industry, which until recently was considered one of the key sources of Russian exports.
The share of unprofitable enterprises in the industry increased to 67%, and the total loss for January-August reached 263.2 billion rubles, an increase of 38.2 billion in just one month. Profits fell by half, while losses fell by 2.6 times.<\/p>\n

“An industry that should generate foreign currency is turning into a black hole for the budget,” the agency noted.<\/p>\n

Services: Russian Post on the brink of a liquidity crisis<\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

The situation in the service sector is no better. According to the SVR, the state-owned operator Russian Post experienced a 4.5% drop in revenue from key services and a 9.3% drop from financial intermediation. Gross profitability fell by 2.5 times, while sales losses increased by 5.7 times to 10.7 billion rubles.<\/p>\n

The company attributes this to “changes in the operating environment,” but intelligence estimates indicate a deep financial crisis: current liabilities exceed current assets by 25.6 billion rubles, which is five times more than in the past.<\/p>\n

“This is a classic symptom of a liquidity crisis that can no longer be disguised with corporate language,” the SVR noted.<\/p>\n

Metallurgy and energy: the fall of the “giants”<\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

Russian metallurgical concern Norilsk Nickel reported a 39% decline in net profit over the first nine months, while expenses increased by 34%. The simultaneous decline in production of nickel, copper, palladium, and platinum indicates a loss of market share in the global market.<\/p>\n

The situation in the energy sector is even more telling. Gazprom recorded a net loss of 170.3 billion rubles for the first nine months of 2025.<\/p>\n

“For a company that has been the budget’s main contributor for decades, this isn’t just a financial failure, but a strategic reversal: the resource that was supposed to guarantee stability now requires support itself,” the Foreign Intelligence Service emphasized.<\/p>\n

Transport: Russian Railways in the red<\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

The transportation sector has also been hit hard: Russian Railways (RZD) reported a loss of 4.2 billion rubles, further adding to the overall economic downturn.<\/p>\n

All these data form a single mosaic: the Russian economy is losing its ability to generate profits even in traditionally strong sectors. The growing debt burden, declining production, and loss-making at key corporations indicate that the crisis is not a temporary setback but is becoming the new norm,” the SVR of Ukraine concluded.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Donald Trump administration recently announced the first major package<\/a> of financial restrictions targeting the Russian economy. This move is part of Washington’s new strategy to force the Kremlin to end its war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

At the same time, US President DonaldTrump sarcastically commented on<\/a> the words of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin regarding new American sanctions, which, according to the Russian leader, will allegedly not affect the Russian economy<\/a> .<\/p>\n
